Emile - let me ask you...
have you have spent much time examining
Matthew 16:18 on your own?

I am still sick but as you can see much better.

The outer man returns to rule - oh no not again :-(

And when things go bad and Satan deceives you into biting the forbidden apple once more, Christ remains faithful and just and will continue to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness if you confess your sins and repents

So we must do works to remain in God's good stead? We are saved by grace Emile. It's nothing we do, lest any man should boast. You are saying in effect: if we do first, then God will do later. If we do, we are saved. We do. Paul says it's nothing we do

In the 15th chapter of Acts we see this visible Church, led by the Holy Spirit, convene a Council and determine certain doctrines that were binding on the entire Church.

So you believe that we have some laws to hold to before we can be saved?

abstain from the pollution of idols
and from fornication
and from what is strangled
and from blood.

Oh yeah, and confess and repent.

It's not pure grace? But grace based on the keeping of some laws?

The successors of the Apostles up to the present is a carefully guarded treasure of the Church.

Wrong. That is placing your trust in men. The ecclesia is not one church. It is a called out group of believers that come from the nations. You're confusing "church" with denomination. Christ was talking about the His followers, not some denomination.

Those of us who follow the Church that Jesus founded do enslave our consciences to the human authority that Christ oradined.

Go right head on. I will not enslave my spiritual "conscience" to any human authority. You can follow the church.

Go ahead and place the Roman church number one in your "conscience".

Emile,

First of all, I'd like to tell you (while not agreeing with your methods) that you always seemed to be sincere in your (lacking a more precise word) ministry over the years I happened upon your posts when I was at SI on a daily basis.

But I'd like to know, did you read the verse you quote in the frame of mind from previous indoctrination, or did you read it as one who hadn't previously known any other churches interpretation of the scripture?

Did you look at the corresponding scriptures in the other gospels? I don't believe Jesus was specifically speaking to Peter only when he said, "upon this rock I will build my church". It just happened to be Peter who gave the answer Jesus was seeking from the 12.

respectfully,

Mike
