I saw that....and found this...Looks like he's been a Dem for some time...sheeps' clothing perhaps. But then he lives in Oregon, so ....typical. I did notice on his bio he flew a jet in VietNam in Dec 68-Jan 69...and then had an Adm job...Did he get hurt? Or why such a short time in air?

If you look on the "truth squad" notice Shiela Jackson Lee...Does that tell you something??????????hehehehe

August 4 - PORTLAND – Lake Oswego resident and Air Force Gen. Merrill “Tony”
McPeak retired from the military in 1994, but he is still fighting for his country.

This week, McPeak and nineteen other nationally-respected leaders formed the “Bush Truth Squad” to hold the Bush/Cheney campaign accountable for misleading claims and deceptive attacks on presidential candidate John Kerry. They will also inform voters of Kerry’s plan to build an America stronger at home and more respected in the world.

“John Kerry has an outstanding record on national defense and military issues, and we will let no negative attack from the Bush/Cheney campaign go without a response,” said General McPeak. “The Truth Squad will stand ready to defend John Kerry’s lifetime of strength and service against the Bush-Cheney attack machine.”

General McPeak served a distinguished 37-year career in the United States Air Force, including service in Vietnam, two years with an elite aerial demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, and as Air Force Chief of Staff until his retirement in 1994. As Chief of Staff, General McPeak was the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for more than 850,000 active duty Air National Guard, Reserve and civilian personnel stationed at 1,300 locations around the world.

An Independent who supported George W. Bush in 2000, General McPeak supports John Kerry in 2004 because he believes our country needs a new direction.
As a leading member of the Bush Truth Squad, McPeak will be a chief spokesperson on military issues, defense, and foreign policy.

“It is absurd for the Bush/Cheney campaign to attack the patriotism of John Kerry, a soldier who put his life on the line in Vietnam to save the lives of others,” said General McPeak. “The Bush/Cheney Administration’s policies have drifted away from what is best for the national security of our nation and the safety of our people. John Kerry will reverse the Bush record of cutting veterans’ health care, over-extending our military, forcing military families to buy body armor for their loved ones overseas, and misleading our people about the facts leading to war.”

The Bush Truth Squad is being formed one week after the Democratic National Convention, and the same week that John Kerry and John Edwards release their new book: “Our Plan For America: Stronger At Home, Respected In The World.”
This book includes Kerry’s plan to make our military stronger, make our War on Terrorism more effective, and to rebuild our alliances around the world.

Other members of the Democratic National Committee Bush Truth Squad include:

Congressman Richard Gephardt
Senator Frank Lautenberg
General Merrill McPeak
Congressman Elijah Cummings
Mr. Skip Barker fellow skipper who served in Vietnam with John Kerry Congressman Sherrod Brown Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Congressman Ciro Rodriguez Ms. Ann Lewis, former Clinton White House Communications Director Senator Richard Durbin Senator John Breaux Senator Dianne Feinstein Senator Debbie Stabenow Senator Bob Graham Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Congresswoman Hilda Solis Congressman Gregory Meeks Congressman Mike Honda
