Gore's choice of Vice President defeated him.

Gore had multiple problems: strong economy, relative peace, people feeling happy, Clinton's stupidity, etc. His big problem was himself though. I've heard that Clinton was furious at Gore for not pursuing the Florida recount (all of it) to the nth degree.

As for Kerry, he has to shorten his points into one-sentence sound bites. The odd thing is, since the SwiftBoat bs came out, Kerry's actual character looks much stronger than I thought it was. Ditto after the Bush bs about the $87 billion vote (he voted FOR the bill with the Biden ammendment and then against it when the ammendment wasn't attached).

Kerry, after much digging, is coming across as a very serious, thoughtful, rational individual. He has to get that out in the short, memorable sentences that the American Public can understand.
