a normal tour was 12 months. you were assigned where you were needed..... remember the majority of the troops were in supporting roles.... some personnel would be brought in from the field to work in staff/training assignments.... the Army had Mobile Advisory Teams which consisted of a 5 man team which were frequently in remote areas in an advisory role to the Vietnamese. these assignments may have been less than 12 months since many of these personnel were reassigned within country because of the need for experience. They all went through a special incountry school in Binh Duong province (Dian).
