Are you suggesting that partisanship trumps country?

Partisanship makes the country. Ya gotta be willing to fight for what you believe in.

I know your point:

XXXI

``Horatius,'' quoth the Consul,
``As thou sayest, so let it be.''
And straight against that great array
Forth went the dauntless Three.
For Romans in Rome's quarrel
Spared neither land nor gold,
Nor son nor wife, nor limb nor life,
In the brave days of old.
XXXII

Then none was for a party;
Then all were for the state;
Then the great man helped the poor,
And the poor man loved the great:
Then lands were fairly portioned;
Then spoils were fairly sold:
The Romans were like brothers
In the brave days of old.
XXXIII

Now Roman is to Roman
More hateful than a foe,
And the Tribunes beard the high,
And the Fathers grind the low.
As we wax hot in faction,
In battle we wax cold:
Wherefore men fight not as they fought
In the brave days of old.

Frankly, I'm not sure the "brave days of old" ever really existed.

No, I am simply suggesting that your perception of partisanship is personal, not universal.

FWIW, I mostly lurk here, occasionaly post. My reason for lurking here is to get a feel for perspectives on any given issue. It should not be hard to find a "Kerry for President" thread on SI, that proposes an alternative perspective.

These threads are just 1 source of data. reviewing multiple sources of data, enables me to determine what is "information", and makes me a more educated voter.

Partisanship is an essential element of democracy. "country" and "partisanship" are not mutually exclusive.
