A little too pat. Russell starts off as a supporter of Kerry who then uses the standard DNC talking points about the right wing running this.

I think his memory of the gunfire is not true. I am sure we will hear about it from Swift vets on their site in the next few days.

The more charges and counter charges the better. Keeps it going. In the meantime, the swift vet ads will be avidly watched.

All the time we were taking small arms fire from the beach; although because of our fusillade into the jungle, I don't think it was very accurate

That is the point the Swiftees made.
All this reported shooting and not even one round hit several 50' boats.

Hell they are almost claiming the VC can't hit a barn when they are inside shooting out. Sorry, I know the VC better than that.

I emailed the paper and asked the editor if the letter was legit. She said it was, had been published on Aug 20, and described the author: "Jim Russell is a longtime local and Vietnam vet who, up until now, and like many other veterans, pretty much kept his wartime experiences to himself."

So there seems to be real controversy over the question of enemy fire during the Rassman engagement.

But anybody who thinks the Swiftvets are being "used" in the sense of being hired by others has not listened to them very carefully. Open & shut case for their motivation, imo.

Now, it is possible that their anger at Kerry may have altered their memories of him.

i believe in this incident Kerry went up the river and left the boats when the mine hit. in kerry's report "5,000 meter"--about two and a half miles of heavy fire, Per unfit for command book page 91,.. Chenoweth, Thurlow, Odell or Pease on these boats never heard one shot fired.
