kerry himself in his book tour of duty on page 313 says he got his ass injury from the rice explosion, although he tries to place the time and context of the incident later in the day and tries to claim it was from friendly fire. actually it came early in the day when he and Thurlow were on shore blowing up rice stock. Both hit the ground after Kerry threw a grenade into the rice stock. Thurlow didn't get hit but Kerry got rice up his ass and some sharp metal. Later in his report of rescue of Rassmann he aledges he got hit in the ass from the mine explosion. Seems strange he got wounded in same location twice in one day. This was how he got the third purple heart. This all took place on march 13, 1969.
