Now living in Australia, my annual health care insurance is AU$1200.

You may find out that you get what you pay for. They damn near killed my brother in law.

I imagine there are several things that influence the cost in AU...and the US. For instance, how many illegal immigrants in AU get free care if they show up at an emergency in a hospital? Someone has to pay for the costs! And it is all of us that have insurance, or not, when we have to visit the hospital as a patient ourselves.

What is the population in AU vs that of the US? Are the employers subsidizing the premium cost there...the government does here, as do many of the large employers. Most smaller companies can no longer help as much as they did.

Does AU still not allow people without jobs to immigrate? I know that was true for a long time, but don't know now. It would make a difference as well in insurance costs....

Our costs for medical insurance are $1150/month!!!! for 2 people. This is a small business rate too.... plus a co-pay for drugs and services....
