former Senator Dole made no mistake when he questioned the fact that loppy only spent 4 months in country (Viet-Nam) and got the same credit as others who had to serve the mandatory normal tour of 12 months.

do you know of anyone who served less than 8 months in Viet-Nam and got credit for a full 12 month tour? there are exceptions.... the servicemen who were killed or medevaced.

just remember i said less than 8 months... think about it, loppy was there for 4 months and basically walked off the job. it would be interesting to know how many personnel stayed (extended) beyond the 12 month tour......

if you are really interested in getting a good understanding of the Viet-Nam War i would recommend you read the book "A Bright Shinning Lie" about John Paul Vann, An American in Viet-Nam by Neil Sheehan.

John Paul Vann also testified before congress. He resigned his regular army commission and returned to Viet-Nam as a government civilian...... he probably had about 8 years in-country when he was killed in 1972.
