Republican convention is essential in picking up centrist voters. Centrist voters are the ones not responding well to what they perceive as the slander of kerry, even if there is some truth there. They want to decide on issues like who will be the best pres on the economy, iraq, homeland security and the WOT. IF you are trying to convince them on one hand that you are a responsible leader but they are thinking whether rightly or wrongly that you are conducting an extremely dirty campaign, you will not get enough of them. Goal is too win a clear victory not another tie or worse. You cant just do that by strutting around and smearing kerrys service and misquoting him before congress thru cut and paste tactics. It has succeeded imho as much as it can in getting the vet vote back to bush--from now on, there are no more true believers to be gained. Whats needed is in the middle and some of the folks on this thread apparently are not interested. mike
