We were attacked in WWII and fought to defend our country --in Vietnam, we went over there and killed them as part of a political agenda unrelated to our own national defense. As for how we killed, the firebombing of Dresden was not exactly an honorable moment in our history. But the slaughter of old men, woman and children in Vietnam took on a whole new meaning in that war -- not knowing how to answer the question "who is the enemy" meant that technically, killing a small child could be considered self defense. Firebombing a village and burning farming families to death could be considered "self-defense" -- all very honorable I am sure. Vietnam was a mess, and the war dishonored America -- Kerry had the courage to both fight in the war AND speak out against it. I admire his courage and have no time for people who try to pretend that Vietnam was a noble mission, honorably pursued.
