I suppose the fact that the 40 was fired at the boat and they began machine gunning the the person with the launcher, he didn't have a whole lotta time to load another round.

The witness has died but he did say that he shot the VC first because Kerry had beached his boat and Kerry's gunner couldn't depress his gun enough to shoot. He also said 11 men were on the ground before Kerry.
