Perhaps you should take your own advice above. Here are the facts as kindly provided by Kerry himself:

Statement of Service, indicating date he began active duty as 8/19/66:

Officially released from active duty January 2, 1970, based on his request, dated November 21, 1969 (page 3 of the PDF), citing his intention of running for congress and noting that his then current duty obligation extended to August 1970. johnkerry.com

So clearly, according to the very documents you suggested we go see, Kerry served a total of 3 years, 4 months and 14 days. But that's only seven and a half months short of your claimed four years, so I guess you'll just round WAY up and continue to insist it was "four full years." Right killer-wail?
