I supported Dole in '96 and I've always admired him (until now). Dole received his first wound in an accident with a grenade. He was barely wounded (just a scratch on his leg - but he was awarded a purple heart).

Of course no one questioned if he "barely bled".

Two days later, he led his platoon on another patrol. In a major offensive on April 14, 1945, Dole led an attack on a German machine-gun nest. 'He was gravely wounded by enemy shrapnel while trying to drag his wounded radioman into a shell hole. Dole's leadership qualities played a significant role in cracking the Germans' mountain defenses. For his "heroism under fire," he was awarded two Bronze Stars.' (from a Dole bio)

I've written to Senator Dole asking him to retract his statement and apologize to all veterans.
