I do find it an infringement of free speech and I made no mention of whether they were on one side or another. You also made much of Kerry condemning a particular ad. "Much" is rather subjective and overstated. I provided two links and one short sentence. And it directly responded to the factually incorrect statement from Jagfan. From this comment, I can only conclude that you do not believe Kerry should condemn other ads run on his behalf by moveon.org and the whole other slug of 527's who have been throwing money around like drunk sailors to defeat Bush for months on end. Each ad could be addressed on it's own material. We seem to be having trouble dealing with two ads at the moment. If you would like each campaign assess and approve/condemn every 527 ad that's out there, I have no problem. I doubt that either the Bush/Cheney/GOP or Kerry/Edwards/DNC would accept that, but if you want to write up the suggestion and send it to both, I'd be happy to sign up.So, if I incorrectly interpreted your position re: Kerry and the 527's, maybe you can just state it simply, including how your free speech infringement observation fits in. I don't know how much more simply I can state it than the two previous attempts. 527s are legal entities as set up by McCain-Fiengold and the tax code that allows them tax-exempt status. They have a 1st amendment right of political speech. As long as they adhere to the definitions of issue ads and do not coordinate their activities with a campaign/party they can contintue to publish issue ads. ...whole other slug of 527's who have been throwing money around like drunk sailors.... The auspicious Congress and the President wrote/approved/signed the McCain-Feingold Bill and tax code that allowed 527s to be tax-exempt and raise/spend unlimited amounts of funds. You can blame them for making it all possible. On the other hand, what do you want to legislate? No political ads other than by the parties/campaigns. George Soros can't do ads, the NRA can't do ads...? If I had my druthers, I would like to have only public financing of campaigns, limited to 30 days prior to the primary/election and only prepared by the parties running for office. ... unfortunately, the 1st amendment gets in the way of my druthers. .... It would be really nice also, if every political ad was full of real information, truthful, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. ... Let's make that a law ... no lying, data mining, misrepresenting data or quotes out of context....let's also throw in no political ads that go back more than 15 years in a candidates life....or no photos of candidates that are more than five years old and no pictures where the candidate is dressed up funny for some event, e.g., St Patrick's day parades. Would that also include if they are dressed up funny for a KKK anniversery event? jttmab
