But I thought the Kerry campaign accepts Brinkley's book? it doesn't seem to matter to these new vets.

Brinkly's book was authorized by Kerry. The contract called for Kerry to read it and approve before it was published. Kerry had veto power. This made it a hagiography, and made Kerry liable for everything in it. Brinkly wrote it from Kerry's Vietnam journals. Brinkly claims that his contract will not allow him to comment on the book, even though it was published 8 months ago.

The impeachment of Kerrys Cambodia account and his "rice bin" purple heart comes from passages in the book that contradict Kerrys previous book and his Navy records.

What Kerry appears to have done is gone out on a mission, then come back and typed up his "dream" version of what happened. His peers say he spent his evenings on the typewriter.

He then put them away and did his first accounts from them and from memory. Years passed, and he finally let Brinkly at them about two years ago. Brinkly wrote the book from them, and Kerry let the fictional account be published.
