I think you misunderstand what Letson claimed. You are correct that Letson claims he treated Kerry's wound and removed the shrapnel. That is OK, Letson is acknowledging Kerry was wounded. But then Letson claims that he was TOLD (by Gardner) that the wound was self inflicted and not in combat. That is hearsay (from Letson) and Gardner was not present. That story I linked, from someone that was actually there, refutes Gardner's story that was repeated by Letson. cleveland.com
