A trap a lot of conspiracy theorists fall into is that they have an easy time picking apart official stories and finding inconsistencies, but they don't apply the same logic to their own theories and conclusions.

You're absolutely right, but I wouldn't call it a "trap" that the conspiracy theorists fall into. Rather, it's a necessary component of their belief structure exactly those employed by deeply religious persons: their assertions are completely self-evident, always unquestionable, and require no supporting evidence or documentation...while essentially all evidence leading to contrary conclusions is to be discarded summarily or integrated - however ridiculously - into the greater conspiratorial framework.

I'm impressed, and pleased, that posts on this thread are, though slowly, definitely becoming more critical as time passes.
