My understanding is that Americans are supposed to care about Israel (sometimes at the expense of their own country's interests) because if Jews don't build a temple somewhere in Jerusalem, then there will be no second coming of Christ.

It's the only country in the middle east that doesn't have a propaganda machine in full-swing promoting or wishing for our destruction? The only country that doesn't celebrate when we die in the thousands at the hand of terrorism? Have you ever met a Bedouin, you might almost think they were aliens in human bodies....
