French swore under oath that Kerry lied about his record. Yet he now admits his sworn testimony was, in fact, nothing more than repeated gossip. He had no first hand knowledge to support his sworn statement that Kerry lied.

Let me simplify it for you. I you swore in an affidavit that your co-worker, Joe, embezzled $10,000, and Joe was arrested, then you said... "Well that's what I heard at the water cooler. I don't know that he actually stole $10,000." You'd be in a heap of trouble.

One doesn't swear to anything without having first hand knowledge of the facts.

"I served with John Kerry. ... He is lying about his record." French subsequently acknowledged he relied on the accounts of other veterans and did not witness Kerry in combat.

Based on the quoted excerpt, what do you contend is untrue?
