Kerry has used his military background as credentials for him to take an anti-war position. I am sure many who have fought in Vietnam and support our effort in Iraq, find that annoying. Especially if Kerry got one purple heart for grains of rice that hit him from his own grenade. The Country seemed to be ok with the first Gulf War since we had an all-volunteer armed forces. However, Kerry, Rangle, Dean, etc say we have a backdoor draft and should not have been involved in Iraq now. I really think their view is that the US should not our military power alone. Kerry should be honest and say that is his position now. I personally think Vietnam was probably a worthy effort, however the mission was too open. I believe our current mission in Iraq is achieveable and has been fairly successful. However the combined will of the American people is weak. Bin Laden knew this when he started, often mentioning our failures in Vietnam and Somalia. The lessons we all should have learned in Vietnam: 1) no matter what, support the troops 2) just because one mission fails, it does not mean it was not a valid mission 3) just because one mission fails, it does not mean we should not take on the next mission 4) if the mission is failing adjust the mission. do that without giving comfort to the enemy. This is not a smear campaign. Many (including myself)disagee with Kerry's core beliefs and those were shown by his comments after coming home from the war. I truely hope those of you who may be unsure, please cast your vote in favor of Bush, for a stronger America against a uncompromising force who stated after the bombings in Spain "you (the West) love life, we (the Islamic extremists) love death."
