And this is a country that we give two billion dollars a year in "aid". That is one of the reasons they hate us. They hate their government, but it's not safe to hate your government in Egypt, so they hate us as their government's supporter instead. Not really. They would hate us even more if we opposed their government.

Hi Nadine, Much like in pre-civil war south, rich southern landholders pitted poor whites against blacks so they could kick the dog and ignore the real oppressor of both. Wow, now i sound like a true Marxist. This is a memory from a history course about the civil war taken 39 years ago. As i wrote it, i wondered if it was indeed accurate. But as relates to egypt you nailed it. Saudis have made a career of doing this as well. US should have called these governments on this long ago, because it probably does more harm than the relationships with these governments do good. mike
