Many people are still in denial about Vietnam. I think amongst the most harmful are people like Ann Coulter, who claim that we could have won the war with different tactics. She is truly an idiot, completely ignoring not only the history of Vietnam, but the subsequent Russian disaster in Afghanistan. Until we rid ourselves of the demons of Vietnam, we're going to continue to revisit and reopen this wound. John Kerry can go a long way towards healing these wounds, by showing that honorable service in Vietnam, although in an unwinnable cause, is both recognized and deeply appreciated by this nation.
