Redfish,
Yours is a wrongheaded analysis and one i dont care to get into arguing about right now. Simples things like cold war ally, democracy would form the basis of the opposing view. I do agreee that the US has larger fish to fry in the area and that a more nuanced policy at this point might be a good thing. What i dont like about your post is when you refer to israel as " an insignificant little nation that means absolutely nothing to 90% of Americans". I wont make the charge of anti-semitism. I dont know you and for the time being i would like to think that you might not have realized the dual meaning of your remark. For the record Israel has the support of a majority of americans, polls consistently show. Mike

<<<The US has set the entire world against it over an insignificant little nation that means absolutely nothing to 90% of Americans. >>>

It certainly would solve a lot of problems to let the Arabs eliminate Israel.
But I suppose we would screw it up some way, by air-lifting those Israelis left from the fighting to the US out of humanitarian considerations.
Probably make the Arabs even madder by having to come over here to eliminate the remainder or by using the captured nukes.
Just another loss in our battle for Arab hearts and minds

Sig

Israel was an important Cold War ally. For example, it was an Israeli agent that obtained Khruschev's speech denouncing Stalin, and smuggled it out of the USSR. We cannot abandon it now that the Cold War is over, especially to a probable second Holocaust.
