Saddam was helping support the families of anti-Israel terrorists.

This is something he should not have done. However, as a practical matter, no one can expect to rule a middle east nation unless he is virulently anti-Israel. It is what the arab masses expect from their leaders.

While the terrorist attacks against Israel are deplorable, Israel is not the fifty-first state. It is a sovereign nation with a modern, effective military that is quite capable of taking care of itself. If Israel felt that Saddam was such a menace, it should have removed him from power without dragging the US into it.
