It was the timing - immediately after the surgery, while he was still under sedation.

I was in the same hospital in post-op when my son had surgery late at night. The nurse was from a pool, did not know her way around the room, didn't know where anything was, and there was nobody to call if things went south. The doctor and I went to high school together so he let me stay in the post op room when he went home.

I had enough post-op experience from my year as a scrub tech to be very, very worried. People will vomit, and someone needs to use a suction tube to clean out their mouth. I've done it myself.
