Thats why the israelis are probably increasing their stockpile of weapons as we speak. What they had was to deter soviet/arab alignment. And with the soviets it always went unsaid that they would take out the big cities in russia if the soviets ever went too far. Now iran but the iranians act less sane. And if this horror does occur then its the arab countries as well and how they react to both israel destruction of a moslem country and perhaps iranian soldiers being attacked in their countries as they march toward israel. After writing this am hoping the iranians will be more like the russians and less like bin laden. mike

My understanding is they have a top-notch military, and in the past have proven exceptionally adept at warfare, so I doubt they would allow themselves to be overrun before responding.

I don't think Iran is likely to overrun Israel but they have talked about incinerating Israel. That probably won't happen either, both because of the Israeli counterthreat and to a lesser extent because its hard to even be able to pretend to be helping Palestinians when you kill a couple of million of them and irradiate both the land they live on and the rest of the land they want to control. But the threat is very real even if it isn't extremely likely.

"For Israel, a nuclear-armed Iran represents a major jump in the already serious threat environment. In 2001, Hashemi Rafsanjani, one of Iran's most powerful clerics, called the establishment of the Jewish state the "worst event in history," and declared: "In due time the Islamic world will have a military nuclear device, and then the strategy of the West would reach a dead end, since one bomb is enough to destroy all Israel." Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenai declared "that the cancerous tumor called Israel must be uprooted from the region." Such threats are part of the bread and butter of hatred that emanates from Iran almost daily."
