What will left-wing voters do about these revelations?

My darkest, deepest fear is that, even with MSM on board and an incontrovertable snapshot of the pathological liar that is Senator Kerry, the left is so warped by their rabid, foaming at the mouth hatred of GWB, they'll still vote for JFK, should he survive this.

I responded:

I don't think the left will vote for Bush. It's the people in the center, the ones who thought Kerry was a great guy - a brave soldier who fought in spite of his misgivings about the war, who will change their minds. The Swift vets are fleshing out Kerry's history - portraying him as a self-serving coward who tried to avoid the draft, but failed, then tried to avoid combat by joining the Navy, but was thrust into combat anyway, then successfully managed to get out of the combat zone by faking some of his medals and then by working the system in a way that no other Swift boat veteran of the Vietnam era had - getting out in 4 months without crippling injuries or in a body bag.

The second phase of the Swift vets' campaign is to nullify his service altogether by pointing out that Kerry accused the 2.5 million American troops who served in Vietnam of having committed atrocities on a routine basis. (Some say he is quoting other people, but when you stand up before a Senate committee, you are not repeating hearsay, but vouching for the testimonies of those other people. Kerry has not produced the nameless people that he claims to be quoting*). None of this will convert people who vote exclusively on the basis of their economic interests or ideological beliefs. But it will sure change the minds of people who thought that Kerry was a decent man worthy of becoming the Commander-in-Chief. And in any election, every percentage point counts.

Bottom line? Independents who think that national security is the most important issue of this political season are going to think twice before voting for Kerry, given his history of deceit, betrayal and frankly, anti-Americanism.

* If there are 250 vets who will stand up against Kerry, surely there are a few dozen bona fide vets who will stand up and tell us that Kerry got these stories from them. Maybe they can outline in detail the kinds of atrocities they described to Kerry, given Kerry claims only to have been the messenger.
