The Dems held up Homeland Security forever because the White House wanted there to be no unions and the Dems wanted unions. I remembered that. Just never connected it to Max Cleland. I can't remember exactly how the union thing turned out and I'm all googled out for tonite. I recall being glad that the administration took on the unions--I'd posted earlier about the absurdity of federal unions and the lost opportunity re getting rid of them--but I don't think that in the end the administration made much of a dent in this case. If they had, I would have had something for Bush's plus column. <g>
