It's probably less common in the Northeast. In general, you don't see this outside of smaller markets, power generation is very sensitive to economies of scale.


Seattle and LA are two big markets with city dep'ts that provide water and power. And I think that's true for SFO and San Diego.

The City of Austin Texas owns the local electric generation too.

Enron tried very hard to get state laws passed that would force them to sell, but they imploded, and DeLay had other priorities.
