Not 4 months, 4 years in the Navy. Get your facts straight.

I can't remember the link, but I recall reading that 75% of swiftboaters received at least one Purple Heart. How many were the result of the extraordinarily dangerous nature of swiftboat duty and how many were the result of "medal inflation" I don't know. However, every Purple Heart is awarded by the recipient's commanding officer after treatment by a medical corpsman. Kerry didn't just write up a report and pin a Purple Heart on himself, there were two other ranking soldiers who had to sign off on it.

This medal stuff is nonsense. There isn't a centralist or liberal soldier alive who is exempt from partisan attacks on his military record by the right wing, as evidenced by the attacks on Mccain and Cleland. If Clark was the nominee it's an even bet his military record would be the subject of harsh criticism from the right.

As far as being a self-promoter... one has to be something of a self-promoter to run for political office.

How can anyone support such a self-promoter? His actions made the Purple Heart look like a charade...when in fact it is John Kerry who is the tin soldier.
