"I think it has double the caffeine of normal coffee..." - A popular myth. Typical espresso-based drinks such as lattes, mochas, etc. actually contain considerably less caffeine than drip coffee produced by Mr. Coffee-type machines.

The method of extraction is responsible for most of the caffeine differential. But espresso is also made from darker roast coffee (roasted longer), and heat actually destroys caffeine.

(However, the espresso-based drinks are the easiest to "turbocharge" with the inclusion of additional shots of espresso, so that "triples", "quads" and even "quintuples" are not unheard of.)
