Bumrungrad Named Best Small Cap Company

Thailand’s Bumrungrad Hospital recently was named “Best Small Cap Company” by Asiamoney in Singapore. The award is the result of Asiamoney’s 12th annual Best Managed Companies Poll for 2003 which solicited votes from over 3,000 fund managers, chief investment officers and heads of research at fund management firms, insurance companies and brokerage houses in the Asia-Pacific region.

Replies from over 180 institutions were received and Bumrungrad was named as the Best Small Cap Company with a market capitalization of less than US$500 million.

“We are very happy to be recognized in this year’s poll,” commented Curtis Schroeder, Bumrungrad’s American CEO. “Bumrungrad has made a remarkable recovery from the dark days of the Asian economic crisis through an effective restructuring and has emerged as the dominant regional player in the Southeast Asian healthcare care market for cost-effective international medical care. This award is a wonderful capstone to the efforts of our management and employees.”

“This represents the first time that this award has been made to a hospital company in the twelve year history of the poll,” added Mr. Philip Owens, the Managing Director and Publisher of Asiamoney. “One glance at our best managed companies on our 2003 poll reveals that they have one talent in common – the ability to recover fast. Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand certainly fits this description with its remarkable success story.”

Bumrungrad Hospital returned to active trading on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 29 October, 2003 when its shares rocketed in value from less than 5 baht per share to open at 61 baht per share on the first day of trading. Turnover for the first three quarters of 2003 increased over 23% compared to the same period of 2002 continuing its pattern of double digit growth.
