All OCS graduates are reserve officers. Only the top 15% of the class gets regular commissions. Sorry, that is not true either. I am only pointing this out in the interest of truth. Title 10 US Code requires OCS Grads and those who receive battlefield commissions to serve for 24 months before requesting a regular commission. There is no provision for exceptions that I know of. All military academy Grads get regular commissions and the top 10% of ROTC do also.

i don't know about the 15% rule, however, sharp reserve commissioned officers were usually encouraged to apply for a regular commission by their superiors. regular commissions were not easy to come by.... except for maybe some ROTC programs where they could select 10% or something like that....

Lesson on the Law of Unintended Consequences: The 527 situation was practically ORDERED by the Congress when it foolishly passed McCain/Feingold. There is no stopping it short of Congress acting again. McConnell will exact a price from the left when that comes around-but it won't be in this Congress anyway. Neither will Swiftboat go away. "Unfit" is just getting started due to the underestimation of demand by the niche publisher (85,000 is usually a big run for them.) But mostly, the Kerry exposures DON'T effect voters who regularly follow events. By accident or design, it is a situation the ZEROS in on the casual voter. For that segment NOTHING can compete with it right now-and that is what is scaring the DAYLIGHTS out of the Kerry henchmen. Effectively, the Democrats have spent decades diluting our democracy by preaching the myth of "participation". Now the most powerful idea driving their McVoters is NOT their socialist class-hatred or racist boilerplate, it's the Kerry exposure brought on by Swiftboat. And the anti-Bush "establishment" media heat exacerbates the negative fever against Kerry the more shrill the "journalists" become (They saw the same phenomenon in California with the LA Times' crusade to save Gray Davis-but they refused to recognize it.) The "participation" monster is rising from the lab table and devouring the Democrat mad scientist who thought he could control it...

And yet my favorite part is the shocking effect on the "establishment" media. The more they publish propaganda that they claim "discredits" the Swiftboat Vets or "exonerates" Kerry, the more the public reacts in the opposite direction. And Kerry only lasts until he's bumped from the ticket (a high probability) or destroyed in an electoral disaster in November (a virtually assured probability if he's still in the race.) The damage to the left wing media, however, is permanent and irreversible...

Kerry's original cheap hawking of his 35-year-old military record was a shot at clouding out the overt TREASON that launched his career when he came home. They KNEW O'Neill was out there, but they took the chance that the lap dog media would-if necessary-put a firewall between O'Neill and the public. (They were also fooled by the successful propaganda war that had saved Clinton-while denying the more-recent LA Times/Gray Davis elephant in their face. A classic case of strategists fighting the LAST war.) Congratulations are DUE to Shawn Hannity, Rush, and many others in the alternative Radio-Free-America that the anti-American "establishment" media has spawned...
