Hello Malcolm, <<... thereby soak up dollars which would have otherwise been reinvested in US bonds. As a result US interest rates are forced to rise ...>>

... the T-bill buying, in this case, may simply be inherited by the oil exporters (Russia, Venezuela, ME tribes) from Japan, China, Taiwan, etc.

The global fiat currency USD is the lifeblood of this era, being progressively poisoned by debt, leverage, speculation, and the financial/economic world will not readily meet its demise because of the slow poisoning, but when it goes, it may all go, in one swoop.

In the meantime, we do a delicate and choreographed dance through the mine fields that is the financial market, until the boom.

Picture it, millions of speculators, all dancing in a mine field, last person standing style :0)

The best part of the party is that Maestro Greensputin speeds up and slows down the music, raises and lowers the alcohol content of the punch, locks and unlocks the doors to the washroom, and makes a speech over the speaker systems, and we are supposed pay attention even as we ogle at our respective dates, and each other's dates, with hunger and abhorrence, in a case by case basis, and sometimes trading dates, via the date brokers, at commissions, always, perhaps based on analysts reports on attraction of dates, the one night stands vs the LTBHs.

Chugs, Jay

China is responding to the energy crisis by building pebble based (uranium derivatives fused in graphite) small modular nuclear reactors (very easy to add a unit to the core generating station as demand increases)& plans to have over 300 in operation by 2020. These reactors are very safe and can't melt down or explode (no containment vessel is needed as well as no superheated steam or water is present).

Once China demonstrates to the world the safeness & cheapness of this system many countries will follow. It will also make it possible to produce hydrogen cheaply which will fuel the transition to that as a basis for global power.

All this assumes we don't blow ourselves up & go back into the dark ages.

Additonally, the Asian countries understand that it is in their best interest to keep their biggest importer (the US) out of major economic trouble. To do this they will keep buying US bonds.

The future is not PREDICTABLY bleak. IT may go that way, but there are counter trends at work. The presence & power of blogs on the US political scene is empowering candidates who are not tied to special interests or money. The moderate center of both parties is sick of the BS of "business" as usual & will more & more support those candidates that reach out to them thru the internet.

Just my humble opinion.
