Colson definitely hired O'Neill to help "destroy" Kerry as Nixon ordered him to do. That's common knowledge. What is not common knowledge is that O'Neill only met Kerry once in his life, at a debate 30+ years ago. Ever since, O'Neill has been harboring a personal grudge because he apparently got bested in the TV debate. Now he's lying to attack Kerry strictly for personal ego reasons. He is connected to the GOP but he doesn't like Bush either. He calls him an "empty suit who's not qualified to be presdient". However O'Neill is heavily backed by Karl Rove associate financiers in Texas. That means Bush backs him.
