Assuming Barnes is truthful, there's no reason to think George knew anything about it, therefore no reason to say he lied.

Barnes didn't name Lloyd Bentsen Jr.s son as someone he was ashamed of helping, did he? Wonder why?

Actually, both Bush and Bentsen were sons of Congressmen and commanders were eager to curry favor with politicians, so it's no likely either Bush or Bentsen needed Barnes help.
