I didn't read the whole book, but every accusation I've seen about Kerry has been disproven. In fact, it is clear that O'Neill has relied on memories that are suspect and contradicted, by veterans who have an axe to grind with Kerry. Also, I've seen other claims by O'Neill where he has editorialized his view, without any backup. For example, where did the fleeing 17 year old VC shot in the back come from? No witnesses claim to have seen that. What they saw was a VC who aimed a rocket launcher at Kerry's boat, attempting to arm it, and failing that ran. Kerry shot him, thinking that he may be turning around for another attempt. What was Kerry supposed to do, wait until the guy turned around for the shot? THAT would have been criminally irresponsible, and could have gotten Kerry's crew killed. It's that sort of slimeball tactics, combined with the lies and contraditions, that completely blow O'Neill's story out of the water. I believe some of the vets have bad memories, but some of them are lying. Mr French has come out with his 'truthful' account of Kerry's actions, but has shown that he cannot be trusted. Besides, I don't get your point, Mr French has admitted his lies:Clackamas County prosecutor Alfred French, who called Sen. John Kerry a liar in a political commercial, acknowledged Thursday that he lied to his boss when confronted about an extramarital affair with a colleague. Hours later, the Clackamas County district attorney's office said French had been placed on a 30-day paid leave while it conducts an investigation into his conduct oregonlive.com
