And, even Thurlow admits that his dislike of Kerry's antiwar comments may have clouded his memory.

There are contradictions in the accounts, ambiguity in the memories of some individuals, and the usual murkiness of official records. Given the comments in the Swift Boat ads, there is not nearly enough clarity, IMO, to declare that Kerry lied, as a coward, and is unfit for command.

However, Rove knows that proof is not needed - only a cloud of doubt.

Yep. If people were wounded or killed by enemy small arms or rocket fire who were they? If they couldn't hear enemy small arms over the din of .50 cal and M-60 fire...where are the damage reports of thousands of bullet holes in the aluminum hulled boats?

Larry Thurlow quickly went to the rescue of those in the Damaged Boat. One can argue he was distracted or I know when I'm reating I am also seeing all dangers and notice all details. None said in that engagement they heard the unique sound of enemy weapons.

But the fact no boat of the 5 had any evidence of bullets hitting them says those who say no enemy fire are supported by the physical evidence.
