As I understand, at least two of the boats, the ones behind PCF-3, had no choice. The flotilla split into two, to go around either side of a net barrier in the river. Kerry's boat was in the lead on one side, with a boat behind, and the three other were on the other side of the river.

When Kerry's boat returned, they were still under fire, as Rassmann attests.

Lambert's account said that Kerry's boat was "ahead of" the others, not behind them.

msnbc.msn.com

"Lambert said the Swift Boats were on their way out of the river when a mine exploded under one, PCF-3."

"Kerry was out in front of us, on down the river. He had to come back up the river to get to us."

This is the guy who was listed as the witness for Larry Thurlow's bronze star. He doesn't like Kerry and doesn't plan to vote for him, so he has no motive to lie.

You wrote: "When the enemy fire disippated, then and only then did Kerry come back. Rassman was under fire which confirms his account. Rassman however was not under fire during the pickup. The VC ambushed and split."

What is your source for that information?
