You dreamin? As for the Vietcong - they were essentially eliminated. That is why it was the NVA that did the fighting. It was an out and out invasion.

Speaking for myself, as a former Marine during that time, my frustration came from the politicians not allowing the military to pick targets and fight. There were many military targets that Americans weren't allowed to bomb or retaliate against. Very frustrating times. dabum

One lesson we apparently didn't learn and are re-learning today is that you can't force democracy on people through the barrel of a gun. The right has been selling that we "lost" the Vietnam war because the people at home weren't properly committed, and didn't "get behind their leaders" for thirty years. Sound familiar? It's one reason Vietnam has such resonance this election, and it's STILL wrong in Iraq, and a sure way to get a lot of people killed and cause much misery.
