That may be true by those on the outside but, according to Dr Ellsberg, Of The Pentagon Papers fame, the insiders knew it was a war they couldn't win even before it started. I find this statement to be absolutely incredible! If the top brass knew in advance it was an unwinnable war, why did they bother to concoct the Gulf of Tonkin Incident (August 1964) to escalate the war. Doesn't make sense to me. It seems to me Dr. Ellsberg was a liar and he was putting all the blame on the Democrats for the benefit of the Republicans.
