I think there is inherent bias in us all as humans. Contrary to your posts, I don't judge others and wish we all could live together in peace. It is true that some want because of perceived "entitlement" while others strive for excellence. However, one cannot remove the sociological bases of poverty from the discussion. The solution is not in just handing money or gifts to anyone. I believe you are right that this often leads to a failed appreciation. One can see that in teenagers given too much on a whim. IMO the solution is to give advantages based on merit and achievement. I do believe that some concessions must be made even in preference but that performance beyond that must be given in exchange. I don't know enough about the natives in BC but perhaps the result would have been different if there had been an earn in clause or a provision whereby the land would be lost if it were not maintained. Perhaps it would go to the tribal community for disposition. Perhaps some of the funds should have been set aside for building character, helping to avoid addictive behavior and substances, assisting in education in maintenance of their new homes and potential employment. I am suggesting that these are difficult questions and I would not willy nilly give a preference to someone based on race or religion. However, I also believe that we have to take some of the "history" into consideration in offering opportunities for man to do his best. I don't believe that there is anything inherently more evil in one group that makes them do what you indicate the natives did. I'm sure there are many interesting articles and "studies" giving reasons that are disparate in views. I like to see people working together, helping others, rather than concentrating on exclusion, saying "my way is the only way," whether it be in religion or otherwise. None of us can know the real answers and none of us should presume a creator who would exclude others merely by virtue of race, religion or belief. If I see hatred, I comment on it. If that's "judging" ok then I am guilty. However, I would preach inclusion and acceptance, help and fostering brotherhood, over exclusion.

Brian, The white man did steal the land from the indigenous native Americans. The white man did buy slaves from African tribal leaders, and ship them to the new world, stacked up like bales of cotton. A certain amount of restribution is due these people. The American Indian people never had alcohol before the white man seduced them with it. Now whose fault is it that alcoholism is such a problem on reservations? They use their treaty checks to get drunk because the white man has spoiled their hunting grounds, and taken away their ability to feed their own families, and above all, have stripped them of their dignity. In Canada's neighbor to the south, many of the tribes are regaining their dignity, lowering the alcoholic statistics, working for and getting college degrees, entering the main stream of business of all fields, and even buying the land that the white Europeans stole from them. I find it very amusing, the one of their best forms of income, is letting the white man throw his money their way in casinos. The white Europeans were getting drunk centuries before the Indians ever knew that alcohol existed. Some of the Indians in the US, grew tobacco for ceremonial use which was safe to smoke, but it took the white man to use additives to make them unsafe, and addictive. I do think that the owner of a business should have the right to hire, or not hire, anyone they please, but in the US, the government has taken that right away. If you tried to act as you speak around here, you would find your butt in jail. I don't agree with that, but we must obey the law. You know, render unto Caesar, and all that BS.
