Sleep with Dogs and get fleas. Russia and France opposed the US on invading Iraq. Maybe there is something to the idea you hit them back hard if they hit you so they think twice about trying to bully you again? I think there is... and I bet France and Russia might come around to this type of thinking too.

>>The rules of war have changed since 9/11 and 99.9% of the
world does not see it for what it is. <<

have a hard time buying that thesis -- there was terrorism before then -- there was islamic terrorists before then --

If there is a military solution -- it is a "new imperialism" -- where we simply take what we want from the ME. I have serious doubts about whether or not that can work ... but I suppose Bush will be re-elected and we will find out (not saying Kerry is anyone who can help either).

In your opinion, which country do we invade (rescue) next? Is Saudi Arabia the next one -- or are they really our friends (nevermind, that most of the fellows who flew the planes into the towers were from there ...).

I think even hard-liners in those ME countries would see the benefit of free trade if we'd try that first.

I think power may be permanently shifting away from the US for a number of reasons.

First, there are the obvious imbalances -- our per capita consumption of world resources and our continual intervention in conflicts that have little to do with us. Second, maybe more importantly, there is within our country a "veneer" of faith in this post-modern age.

God obviously holds the reigns world-wide -- He raises up or casts down -- Many countries have been brought down while invoking God's name in a way that did not truly honor Him. Ever read Habakuk?? Habakuk had much consternation and asked God (my paraphrase) -- how can you let these heathen vermin crush us??

Habukuk may be the book for our times ... whatever you think you have to reconcile the fact that 9/11 was allowed -- we can try to discern the purpose -- we can be haughty about it or we can humble ourselves before God and really ask why ...

Iraq appears to be far from being a success at this pt -- rather it appears to be one of the most costly global welfare programs -- if it fails and fails miserably -- civil wars results -- will that occasion an opportunity to rethink whether this was the right course of action or not -- or are we RIGHT by definition -- being the US of A.
