sr - i grew up in new york in an area that has a prominant jewish community (maily secular) and have been friends with many religious and non-religious jews (including my great grandparents, who lived long enough for me to know them) my entire life. Many of these people I consider among the best I know. You bet your ass i'm going to defend them. Religion, lutheran, jewish, or other has played no part in my life or upbringing directly. that is the plain and honest truth. I need not defend my background any further to you or EV. however, you keep missing the point. I do not consider myself lutheran, or jewish simply because my heritage is linked in those directions. I consider religion to be a belief, not an ethnicity. If you want to have an honest discussion about the why jews have been persecuted throughout history, and what the failings of the religion are, I have my own theories. But to use this as a launching point to deride an entire segment of people, as EV does, is abhorrant, imho.

btw, you sound as silly as all those right wingers here who berated me for being a kerry-supporting democrat, simply because I critized bush and defended kerry against what I thought were unfair slanders. i am a hard line realist, and I blindly support no one.
