The timing of death can often be determined by the type of insect, the stage of development. Two or more species gives a more accurate indication of time of death. After core temperature is gone and rigor mortis fades (begins 3 to 4 hours later to within a day and a half after death) there are few other ways to determine with any relative accuracy the time of death.
