I watched a bit of the 'protest' parade yesterday. What really amused me was to see the former flower children of the late 60's, now in their sixties, but still attempting to look like the precious children who manned the barricades back then. Now is not Then and Then is not Now. And a 60 year old former flower child still trying to act like one is ludicrous and funny and not that powerful political statement intended.

I am still laughing.

I'm wondering about the emotional leftovers of the Viet Nam war ..

I wonder if there would have been any similar social leftovers from the civil war ..

I think the issue goes back after WW1 when the idea was that was the war to end all wars. After that many in the US did not want to go into WW2. Then once we had new confidence we had a stalemate in Korea and defeat in Vietnam. Then when we thought the cold war was over, all the problems would be solved. We had a technological edge, but Bin Laden backed by the US found the loop hope when fighting the Soviets in Afganistan. So now our enemy uses our technology, cell phones, internet to attack our spirit.

The pattern is there will never be peace without strength. Many think it is just a lack of understanding
the other side. But they have spelled out their plan and we must be determined to stop it.

Exactly. The rightwing is trying to make us forget the truth about Nam, and that some of the same players are operating on lies and profitteering in Iraq, like Brown+Root which is now Halliburton.
