In 1971 the right thing to do was oppose the war and force the government to end it. Historically that is proven now. Also remember Nixon only won in 1972 by promising to end the war. He didn't want to do but the public forced him to. Kerry was with the vast majority of Americans by 1971 wanting that war over. The best way to end it was to expose it as a failure, a brutal out-of-control quagmire and a war based on lies which was so crazy it was making murderers out of our young men. The guilt lay at the top. Mcnamara admits this in "The Fog Of War".
