Protesting the war in 1971 was the 'wrong thing"? Come on, looking back can you give the family is those KIA'ed in Nam any good excuse why we were there after the late 60's? It was a massive dishonest screw-up.

Kerry told it like it was. His language was a little strong but he was telling the truth. It helped shock the nation into making the change. America doesn't like to admit mistakes and losses but we simply had to then. We had no choice unless we wanted to throw more good money and lives after previous losses. By 1971 Vietnam was an awful-awful situation. We needed leaders like Kerry who'd actually been there to speak out. It worked even though Nixon took his damn time.

The onlty vets angry with Kerry are Bush-supporting rightwingers. I know several moderate Vets who have great respect for Kerry even though they voted for Bush in 2000. No honest vet can diss Kerry. He is the real deal and really cares about soldiers and vets. He is a tough warrior but a very smart and ethical one.
