The carrot is to withhold the stick. When you use a stick you create a second carrot. The other carrot is to put pressure on Israel. Bush has removed pressure from Israel and sided with the Israeli hawks. The third stick is UN cooperation and showing understanding. That includes helping moderate Arab leadership and gradually moderating Iran to the point where it is no longer a threat. But what we really need to do is get off the oily stuff. Until we do we will forever be slaves of the Arabs. And it's very weird having a hawkish president who was in business with the Bin Laudens. Can you imagine what rightwingers would say if Kerry had been in business with Saddam?
